The Nooksack Tribal Court provides a neutral forum for Nooksack Indian Tribe’s community to resolve disputes. The Chief Judge hears cases, issues decisions and orders, and oversees the administration of the Tribal Court. The Chief Judge is Raquel Montoya-Lewis.
The Court Clerks accept court filings, manage and maintain court case files, and manage the court’s calendars. The Civil Court Clerk is Betty Leathers and the Criminal Court Clerk is Deanna Francis. The Court Clerks can provide you with copies of court files, as long as they are public files or you are a party to a case. The Court Clerks can also provide you with your court date and ensure that you receive proper notice of your hearings. Please be sure that we always have current contact information, especially if you have a current case pending in the court.
The Court Clerks are not able to give you legal advice. This means that the Court Clerks cannot tell you which forms you need to submit or how to fill out court forms. Over the next year, the Chief Judge will be developing forms with directions to assist you.
